Safety Gear You Should Wear When Checking the Work Done by a Mold Remediation Company

Post by admin Leave your thoughts

Removing mold is a tough job. While the experts at a mold remediation company can efficiently handle the task and provide excellent results, if you want to visit your home during the mold remediation process to check the progress and assess the conditions, you need to wear safety gear. Why? Because mold spores travel in the air and can come in contact with you.

We have created a list of safety gear that experts wear to protect themselves from the harmful effects of mold. You must wear this basic gear too.

Don’t Inspect the Work of Mold Remediation Company without Wearing These Safety Items

1.   Respirator or Mask

The spores of mold are 1 to 40 microns. This means that it can only be seen through a microscope. This is the reason why nobody knows if they are inhaling it or not. This may lead to respiratory problems. To prevent this, you should wear an N95 respirator or a P100 mask.

These masks filter out at least 95% of airborne particles, including mold spores. Select a mask that fits snugly on your face. A loose one won’t help you. A tip here is to check the mask for any damage or tears before putting it on. A small tear or breach can reduce the mask’s effectiveness.

2.   Gloves

Another safety item to wear when inspecting the work of a mold remediation company is a pair of protective gloves. It prevents direct contact with any lingering mold on surfaces or debris left behind. Latex or nitrile gloves are great options. It is because they are durable and resistant to mold spores.

3.   Eyewear

Mold spores can also irritate your eyes, especially if you are inspecting areas where the mold patches are huge and spores are airborne. To avoid irritation, wear eyewear like safety goggles or a full-face shield.

Wear the goggles that fit properly and comfortably. If you wear glasses, consider getting goggles that fit over them to provide full protection so you can check the mold remediation company’s work without worry.

4.   Coveralls or Long-Sleeved Clothing

Mold spores can latch onto your clothes. It’s a good idea to wear disposable coveralls or long-sleeved clothing that covers your entire body. This will reduce the likelihood of spores being carried around or spreading to other areas of your home.

If you choose to wear regular clothing, make sure to wash them immediately after leaving the site. Using hot water and a strong detergent will help remove any mold spores that may have stuck to the fabric.

5.   Boots or Protective Footwear

Mold can also be present on the floor or hidden in cracks. So you should wear sturdy, protective footwear during checking. Boots made of rubber or another waterproof material are the best option. It is because they are easy to clean afterward.

Additionally, if you are checking a heavily contaminated area, disposable shoe covers can be worn over your boots to prevent mold from spreading.

Final Words

Whether you are checking during the mold removal process or after the mold remediation company is done with the work, it’s not safe to walk in that area without wearing protective gear.
